Why concentration of media ownership is a slippery slope
Concentration of media ownership not only reduces the number of voices in the market, but also nullifies the honesty and independence of journalists and media channels. The goal of any corporation is money and numbers, which is why when planning expenses and plans for content, priority is almost always given to projects that will bring maximum profit.
The second problem is that when a media conglomerate buys a company, it becomes the mouthpiece of that conglomerate. If a newly acquired company carries information that contradicts the opinion and agenda of its owner, then it does not cost anything to sanction this company by taking away its funding or dismissing those employees who made this message.
As far as journalistic media channels are concerned, according to the professional point of view, a journalist should be a source of information independent of other people's opinions. As soon as the state or corporation that manages a journalistic publication prohibits the publication of certain information that is not directly extremist, they violate the rights of a journalist and the basis of freedom of speech.
We need laws that either prevent huge corporations, states or millionaires from subjugating media channels, or agencies that check the pressure on these communication channels if they belong to one corporation. There is no point in a lot of media if they all speak in carbon copy - when people see that, for example, posts on social networks, telegram channels and news are repeated word for word - why watch them all at once? In my opinion, the media do not speak in unison, but in turn, gathering their audience around them.
In addition, control over the media leads us to complete control over information by one or more people who will definitely use these tools for their personal and corporate purposes. You can never give either power or a microphone into the hand of just one person - otherwise this person, no matter how holy he is, will lead everyone only along his own path, leaving people no opportunity to think and have their own personal opinion.
