The contrast of media market share of USA and its influence.

By: Cao Yinfei
In this blog, I want to analysis the market share and influence of USA.

    USA.
All traditional paper media is private, such as New York Time, Washington Post. And most of (90%) electronic media is private, like Walter Disney and FOX News. Some of the electronic media is belongs to pubilc, such as NBC. And mojority of electronic media belongs to government, such as Voice of America.

We can see that, just like the market itself, the market need two "hands", one is visible and one is invisible. Also, media market is need a visible hand, or it won't work well.
In the main opinion of western public, the government is composed of people. People will make mistake, so does govenment. So, media need to supervise government. It seems reasonable, but are media composed of people? Yes. So media will make mistake?
Yes. And who will supervise media? Emmm.....
So that is the ugly faces of Western journalists. They criticize others from the highest point of morality. Once others refute them, they will be accused of arrogance.
When I saw the interview of NBC to president of Azerbaijan. The interviewer constantly irony the president. Just like she is the president of Armenia. The conflict between two countries is very complicated. Interview should ask question for audience but not question others why don't do this or why don't do that.

In my opinion, the media should be responsible to society and be neutral. But the theory is just theory and the fact is more complex. In the market of USA media, one-sided maybe is not a good thing.
Lose balance, lose function. When news tycoons and celebrity reporters can become celebrities, this is a very dangerous idea.
Maybe you know the famous fake news, Jammy's world, by Janet Cooke from Washington Post. I think this is the bad result of media lacking supervising and balance.

  1. Yes, I quite agree with you.In western capitalist countries, the media is often regarded as the fourth kind of public power independent of legislation, judicature and administration. However, this kind of power can't operate in the sun, and corruption and riots bred by the media will happen. Moreover, the institutional reasons determine that the media can only serve capital, which also deviates from its original intention as a kind of public power.

  2. Yes, an epidemic has shown us the hypocrisy of some western countries. The so-called democracy and freedom are just an excuse for better governance. The media always present what capitalists want the people to see, without mentioning the bottom of society and fundamental contradictions.——He YiPeng(Bruce)

  3. It is really complicated, we understand that countries with a relatively large market have greater financial capacity to support a variety of products and are able to keep more services on the market but at the end the game is turning to a political one! (Zeina)
