Media, government and people should be a triangle of supervising

By: Nick Cao

In the main opinion of western people, government is made up by people, people will make mistake, then government also. Some people call media power as “the fourth power”, this shows that people think government should be supervised by media. But question is, media are also made up by people, then they will also make mistake. When they make mistake, who will supervise them? And the quotation mark of “the fourth power” shows us this is not a true right or power because it is not stable. It is very easy to be influenced, by tough power, by threaten, by money.

So, in my opinion, the government should limit media market in a limited way and accept the supervision from people and media. And media also should accept supervision from people. Sometimes as an average person, it’s not easy for us to investigate the news media posted.

But with the development of Internet, self-media has raised. It provide a good way for people to express their opinion and a good way for us to learn something from a new angle.

This is “Triangle theory”, in the following paragraph, I will show you how this theory or model works.

  1. I strongly agree with you that with the development of new media, the fourth power is at the root of the impact on the right to freedom of expression held by civilians, because when the fourth power is held by big capitalists. Then the voices of citizens expressing their personal opinions will be drowned out by the media wave of the big capitalists. That's why I support the idea that the fourth power must operate under the sun. It is to use the means of law to restrain the fourth power.

  2. Just like the separation of powers system in the United States, the government, the people and the media need to reach a balance with each other so that the media can not be used by a few elites. The prevalence of self-media has changed this situation to a certain extent. But will the excessive prevalence of self-media lead to information overload and excessive screening workload?——He YiPeng
