Liberty of Chinese Media

As the
three Models of Media system, I think the past of China media system is Liberal
Model.
Before
1949, In the magazine era of the Republic of China, Chinese media was the
well-known thought communication media in the old society.
At that
time, there were many news media that publicized the advanced western ideas and
regimes, such as newspapers and magazines, which people read every day at that
time. The elite paid more attention to the trend of politics and
was keen to talk about similar remarks in newspapers.
Especially
college students and professors, who use journalism and public viewpoint to
publicize the ideas they represent. In that era, Chinese media people strive to
change the face of China and their fundamental purpose of public thought
was to save the country.
Therefore, the
media format at that time was very free and relatively professional, and they had
a balance of government. The media just describe the factual behavior of the political party but didn't speak on the behalf of the government.
And now, particularly after 1982,Chinese media system changed to the Democratic Corporatist Model,Strong
development of mass-circulation newspapers, rooted in both commercial and party
newspapers;
The current Chinese media is
composed of local news media organized by the state and local governments,
urban newspapers, or we media people and commercial media institutions
Then, business news mainly
reports the politics and events at home, abroad, and locally, and also reports
some economic-related articles and news trivia of residents' lives.
However, the direction and
content of news reports are mostly controlled by the government and parties.
But on the whole, it still has
quite rich and diversified content and is more rigorous in the true report of
the facts, so as not to control the trend of social public opinion, and people
will also get some solutions to problems by contacting local media or
submitting articles online.
It will bring people a strong
sense of news security and belonging, make people more willing to believe the
reports in the news rather than some gossip, and have ‘Chinese way opinion’ on
political discussions and international issues, to facilitate the
understanding of the Chinese people
Enjoyed your article very much. Saw the cover of this magazine New Youth. I thought of the great May Fourth Movement. The idea of communism entered China and the great Chinese revolution had a guiding ideology from then on.

The models of Hallin and Mancini have a Western empirical focus, which serve as a reference point for analyzing the media system of other countries, but do not act as a universal framework. I see why you wanted China to conform to the Democratic Corporatist Model, however, I think it could have a model of its own. State-owned media still have a significant market share, and there is a high political parallelism and state intervention, there is also a growth trend, high audience reach, content diversity and international influence. Things that from the Western perspective are somehow contradictory, however, are happening in China. As such, the models of Hallin and Mancini, lack diversity and perhaps even new dimensions. ReplyDeleteI know this very well, because I come from China. This model is reflected in Chinese media, and we have to learn it in history class.---------Zhang Jiahui(Lucas)
ReplyDeleteMedia has its particularity in China. Chinese characteristics are one of the important factors for China's success. If we stick to our own way and carry out it carefully, we may have good results.——He YiPeng(Bruce)
