Don't Look Up: The Other Side of America
By:Zheng HaoYuan (John)
A meteorite the size of a mountain flew in and scientists saw the demise of the human race.
Businessmen see profit, politicians see votes, artists and singers see traffic, news people see another topic.
The audience saw the sexiest cosmic research workers, saw women interpreting the roaring pop-art (pop-art), they are more concerned about the flow of stars love life, break up and get back together.
After all, most people do not understand whether meteorites exist, can not understand the complex mathematical calculations, and therefore do not believe. It was not until the meteorite, in the form of a naked eye, pulled out its tail in the dark that they stopped and looked up to see it.
But to their surprise, "look up" became a Tag line, and its antithesis, "don't look up," became the opposite of what people were standing for on the Internet.
The result is that the meteorite is finally falling overhead, and Bash Technologies, as the strongest force (mainly in politics, not in strength) is unable to fight it, and eventually the Earth comes to an end. The main groups of characters accept death openly at dinner, saying they have done everything.
The meteor came, people could do something but did not, and finally perished. It may be a few sentences to tell the whole thing, but the movie took nearly two hours, too long-winded.
Back to the irony.
There are many things that are satirized: for example, the politicization of masks, the impact of masks on 5G signal speech, wearing or not wearing masks is a matter of freedom and human rights, but not disease prevention and control; the group is brainless, eager to chase celebrity gossip; news people are good at gags, entertainment to death, the beautiful name is "photogenic".
But the biggest problem with this kind of satirical films is that, is satire an expression, and can it be considered a film?
The examples cited above share a common feature: the object of satire is a stereotype, a nonsense. Although it happened, it does not mean that it is justified and does not stand up to the thought process.
Therefore, when you take a film from the outside, you can ridicule and satirize from above, which is of course cool, but as a direct result, the film creates a paper character like the character it satirizes, which is as untenable as the object it satirizes.
The act of "satire" must be based on something, if the matter itself is full of holes, then satire it is just a catharsis of emotions, once again the entertainment of the public, cool, the essence of meaningless.
Satire, that is, the American specialty, especially satire of their own family matters, even without our hands: Americans like to see personal heroism stories (the image of the chosen astronaut old man, corresponding to superheroes), the White House snack fee for the minister (a parody of the abuse of power), the name of the film do not raise their heads politicized (wear a mask freedom).
Film and television also happen to be able to grasp the scale of satire to the point where the audience is entertained and the people who are actually satirized (or maybe no one at all) are in a state of no pain. The result is that everything seems to be satirized once, but nothing is actually dug deeper.
Perhaps the biggest social event in America in 2020 was the police crushing of black George Floyd, about police abuse of power and violent law enforcement, and the residual black problem after the founding of the country. For this type of real problems, people are not stupid, know but not voice, because if you dare to come out with a satirical film of this event (or scene reenactment again), the next end is really like those few scientists, the head bag dragged away. So, for what can be satirical, what can not, they themselves are very clear.
Vainly set up a target, and then vainly hit the target. Pull the emotional opposition, which is a flow code, can be considered to play to understand.
I like this sentence"Businessmen see profit, politicians see votes, artists and singers see traffic, news people see another topic." I think it is through the film, which is a portrayal of this era. The agenda setting is often the agenda setting of the government and the agenda setting of business, but what is the agenda setting of the community with a shared future for mankind.---------Zhang Jiahui(Lucas)
ReplyDeleteI don't have a question, but I would like to say that for me the movie, despite its classification as a satire movie or a comedy movie, I did not see any comedy . Rather, I noticed that it was a dramatic movie, full of emotional and difficult moments.
ReplyDeleteThis is me said
DeleteYour blog show me another angle to understand this film. Media have a lot of function. But in this movie, it lost the basic function called mobilization.
