how communication can be deeply related to our existence as human?

By: Yara Hasan.

“Social contact with others is as basic a human need as food, shelter, and water,” says Dr. Matthew Lieberman, a researcher in the Department of Social Psychology at Harvard University.

We are primarily social personalities and our entire lives are built on relationships and social interactions with others, and good relationships do not exist without effective communication. However, Most people give up to the misconception that the ability to communicate with others is a natural trait that cannot be learned, while the ability to communicate effectively is an emotional intelligence skill that can be learned with diligence and practice.

In my opinion, the communication is the reason that unites us in life, that gives our lives meaning and something to look forward. It doesn't matter with whom we are talking, what we know is that communication, Our ability to feel connected is the reason we are here, so i can be so sure that life could be meaningless, closed and boring without communicating.

Nowadays communication has a wider meaning especially when we get to the mass communication, when you communicate with a huge number of people. And this kind of communication has more than one model. The model of mass communication offer a systematic representation of the process through which the understanding of how communication works became simple.

The Linear Model of Mass Communication

The digital era also brought about a shift in the models that media researchers have used over the years to explain how media messages and meanings are constructed and communicated in everyday life. In one of the older and more enduring explanations about how media operate, mass communication has been conceptualized as a linear process of producing and deliver-

ing messages to large audiences. Senders (authors, producers, and organizations) transmit messages (programs, texts, images, sounds, and ads) through a mass media channel (newspa- pers, books, magazines, radio, television, or the Internet) to large groups of receivers (readers, viewers, and consumers). In the process, gatekeepers (news editors, executive producers,

and other media managers) function as message filters. Media gatekeepers make decisions about what messages actually get produced for particular receivers. The process also allows for feedback, in which citizens and consumers, if they choose, return messages to senders or gate- keepers through letters-to-the-editor, phone calls, e-mail, Web postings, or talk shows.

Berlo’s SMCR Model of Communication presents the communication process in its simplest form. The model consists of four component that are each influenced by different factors. To ensure the message is conveyed as effectively as possible, the sender and the receiver must share some common ground.

Communication skills play a crucial role in this. Other factors, such as culture, knowledge and attitude are also vital. What may be considered rude in some cultures, may be perfectly fine in others. Communication doesn’t always go as smoothly as one would hope. Various problems, such as disruptions, noise and an asynchronous process, may obstruct proper communication.

  1. We are in accord, that it is in our human nature and within our ability to communicate, yet doing so effectively is not always so simple, and skills must be learned. This is especially true when trying to reach new audiences with different cultures. For example, talking about sexism, racism, or human rights among people of different backgrounds can become a very confusing topic even though the "same words" are used. This is because a word or concept can have a spectrum of meanings depending on each country or time period. This is why, a good communicator will know not only to use the right language, but also to contextualize it, adapt it and interpret it, so that the message reaches its recipients effectively. 3. Yes, I quite agree with you. Communication is human nature, and we need to communicate with each other to obtain a better living environment and quality of life. This is also one of the necessary conditions for the social division of labor, from which all aspects of our modern mass media can be derived ——Bruce(He YiPeng)
